You do realize....
that you actually have to have speed AND be able to bunt to make that strategy more than just an easy out. Could VT or any other team learn to bunt better? Sure. That is a skill that can be developed. In VT's case it certainly could pay dividends from time to time in advancing runners and potentially manufacturing another run or two. However, speed is a God given talent, occasionally developed, but, more often recruited. You probably do not need more than two hands, and possibly one, to list the elite speed VT has had on the roster since the program's inception. Slapping and bunting are not skills that come readily to mind when talking about VT softball. The point is it can be an effective offensive strategy and possibly developed/taught, to a lesser extent but, to really be successful talent has to be recruited and it is extremely difficult to recruit that style of player when you have shown neither the inclination or disposition throughout your program and coaching history to play that way.
